I needed to take one of the many sketchbook thumbnails to a finished color concept. Had some helpful feedback from my buds at work to improve this one and finally call it done. Not a terribly well planned space in terms of function, but it was fun working on the lighting and details. ;P
a completely different approach to an earlier concept I started for a 'fortune teller' - had to simplify some things. sometimes simpler IS better.
CS5 about 5 hrs in two sittings spread over the weekend.
trying to achieve the appearance of blending a present day culture with more futuristic technology to give a believable fictional universe. might be cool to try this sci-fi treatment on a more historic culture such as mayan, norse or tribal african.
here is a quick concept based on one of my sketchbook doodles. i'm trying to work on 'loosening up' with my brushwork - that delicate balance of detail vs suggestive forms is difficult for me (not sure why, LOL).
the scientist - started as a test for a new brush I made.

here's a screen grab of a couple of character designs I'm working on - just personal work. they're obviously in the WIP stage, but I'm having fun and enjoy where they're going. should be able to post these as finished concepts by next weekend - I hope.
Another concept artist at work threw down a challenge to take a character we had finished and do a redesign - trying to improve it or just taking a different approach. This was my result. A fun exercise and great challenge.
did the initial drawing on paper, then scanned it into photoshop and painted it up.
same process, different subject and mood.

just a couple of fun doodles... trying something different. don't psychoanalyze me.

I started painting this one ages ago from a rough pen sketch I did and just wanted to 'finish' it a bit... not sure how I feel about it yet. I do like dark fantasy stuff - perhaps I'll try to do more of that.
did this for a buddy at work - he wanted something to model for his personal portfolio and so I was only too happy to have an excuse to draw another creature / alien dude, lol.
a couple speed paints done in my 'spare time'. i like the she-spider-monster best... the fat cult queen is just all kinds of nasty and disturbing... and 'juicy' [gag]
this freaky creature is a result of some little sketchbook doodles... i did a detailed drawing based off this and painted the thing up in photoshop - trying to pay more attention to lighting and mood. the blue tongue is inspired by some geckos that have blue tongues, and i thought it was gross... kinda unnatural. ;P
